Hint: Extra Lives

Because you start each game with only four lives (after shutting the game off and turning it back on), you might be in need of some extra lives upon rebooting the game. You can usually get five right off the bat from Toad (he’ll run around with a letter above his head, symbolizing a letter from either Luigi, or more likely Peach). There are four more strewn around the Observatory that you can acquire, however:

  1. On the moving green platform below the core.
  2. Under the stairs leading to the kitchen.
  3. Right at the top of the observatory. (Once the Red Star is unlocked)
  4. Underneath the entrance to the gateway to the stars. (Once the Red Star is unlocked)

Hint: Second Player

If you have a second Wii controller, you can have a friend play along with you. While there won’t be a second player on-screen, you will have a second cursor to use. This means that Coins, Star Bits, and the like can be collected by the second player. There’s also some functionality in controlling Mario’s jumps.

Unlockable: 121st Star

There’s actually 121 Stars in the game, not 120. To get it, you must first have all 120 Stars. This unlocks Luigi. Beat the entire game with Luigi, defeating Bowser at the end. After this, a new galaxy will be unlocked. Finish this final galaxy to get the 121st Star.

Unlockable: Death Count

The Grand Finale Galaxy, which is the secret galaxy that can be unlocked after 120 Stars are gathered with both Mario and Luigi, holds another secret. Once the final Star is acquired with both characters in this galaxy, you will be able to see your death count on your save file. This will allow you to see how many times you died while playing the game with both Mario and Luigi.

Unlockable: Luigi

Here’s how to get Luigi. First, get all 120 Stars in the game. Then, return to Rosalina (on the Comet Observatory) and request to fight Bowser one last time. Defeat him and let the credits roll. Thereafter, a message will appear telling you Luigi is a playable character.

Grand Finale Galaxy

Collect all 120 Stars with Luigi, and defeat Bowser to unlock the Grand Finale Galaxy, which is the Star Festival seen in the beginning of the game.

Homing attack

Spin in mid-air, then immediately press Z to hit the nearest target.

Buoy Base Galaxy: Pokemon reference

Above the tower where you collect the Blue Star Pieces in Buoy Base Galaxy is a little planetoid that is a sphere with two red panels on top and a lighter bottom with a screw in the middle. It looks exactly like a Pokeball.

Pikmin reference in Space Junk Galaxy

One of the planets is shaped like Captain Olimar’s rocket ship that appeared in Pikmin and Pikmin 2.

Easter Eggs

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

Various Nintendo Wii games have their own Easter Eggs.  Easter eggs are tricks, cheats and hidden areas or functions within a program.

The following are some interesting “Easter Eggs” that are part of the Wii, WiiSports and the Wii Channel:

  • Catch an evil cat in the Fun option (by pressing A and B) in Photo Channel that runs across the screen so you can get some tips
  • A 194 piece puzzle can be created by holding down the 1 button before selecting any piece amount
  • You can e-mail a JPG file to your Wii Message Board (around 1MB limit)
  • In Wii Bowling, you can throw your ball into other people’s lanes
  • If you put mp3s in your SD card along with your photos, you can change the background music during a slide show to one of your mp3s
  • When the message board records your play time, if you don’t exit to the Wii Menu before you power off the machine, it records the play time as “other”. If you properly exit to the menu and then shut off it will record it as the correct game
  • You can rearrange almost anything on the Wii…like the channels and messages by just holding the A and B
  • The plasma burn in reduction kicks in the second the Wiimote shuts down.
  • When you get an e-mail, not only does the disc drive light up and pulsate blue, but your Wiimote sends out a little chirp
  • When you’re in the Mii channel and you don’t use the Wiimote for a little bit and your Mii’s start walking around, if you then suddenly use the Wiimote, all the Mii stop and follow the ‘hand’ for about 3 seconds
  • When typing messages, and you need to go back and edit the message(while still typing) instead of deleting letters, just point to where you want to edit to move the type cursor.
  • In Wii Sports Bowling, when you press up on the Directional Pad, it will zoom in on the lane. The zoom in sound is the exact same sound from Super Mario 64 any time you moved the camera.
  • Co Op Jigsaw puzzles in Wii photos
  • You can place the sensor bar upside down and it doesn’t reverse the directions of your movement
  • In Wii Bowling, you can release on the back swing and throw the ball backwards. It scares all the Mii’s behind you
  • Classic controller has analogue shoulder buttons. With the GC “click” at the bottom.

I hope you enjoyed that! Have fun!
